Now America can inspire the world again

The January 6 storming of the US Capitol shocked millions of people outside America to the core. When watching the sickening pictures of the "insurrection," I was thinking back to August 2018. America was bidding its final farewell to Sen. John McCain. Political leaders, Republicans and Democrats -- they came together as Americans to send a message of unity around his casket in the Capitol Rotunda. To me, that sad moment was also a moral highpoint. One of many in this sacred place called the US Capitol. What a striking contrast to what the world saw on January 6, 2021. The low point.

Impeaching Trump is only the start

Following the violent storming of the Capitol by pro-Trump demonstrators, Democrats are preparing for an unprecedented second impeachment of Donald Trump. The remarkable idiocy of holding a Trump rally in Tulsa

Like many others, I was startled to learn that President Donald Trump was resuming his campaign barnstorming in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Startled that he was hitting the road again in the middle of a pandemic, startled that he had picked the place where a massacre of African Americans occurred (and was covered up) 99 years ago, startled that he initially decided to do this on Juneteenth -- June 19, the holiday celebrating the end of slavery.

Opinion: The threat Sanders poses to Texas Democrats

With time running short before Super Tuesday, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and the other Democratic presidential hopefuls have been barnstorming Texas. Just as a new CNN poll shows Sanders leading former Vice President Joe Biden by 9 percentage points, many Democrats here have deep concerns that not only would the Senator lose to President Donald Trump, but he could also doom down ballot candidates in the Texas House and in the US Congress.
