Analysis: One thing Biden will not do to fight the Omicron variant

There was a telling moment during President Joe Biden's remarks on the new Omicron coronavirus variant at the White House Monday. He's all in on doing everything he can to get Americans vaccinated and politely asking them to mask up, but he's not likely to go the direction of some European leaders and push lockdowns any time soon.

William Shatner can't escape 'Star Trek,' but his voyage has gone well beyond it

William Shatner chided me when I interviewed him in 1987. The actor wanted to keep the focus on his move into directing, politely objecting when I asked about his relationship with the "Star Trek" faithful after a "Saturday Night Live" skit the year before in which he famously told cast members playing trivia-obsessed fans to "get a life."

All pregnant people deserve a law like New Zealand's

Looking back, I cannot recall the exact time, or even the exact day, that I realized I was miscarrying my very-wanted pregnancy. All I remember is that I was at work, and politely excused myself to the bathroom to discover I was bleeding, which confirmed what the cramps and nausea were already telling me. And while it is true he became famous for the creation of Marvel Comics and characters such as Spider-Man, Black Panther, Thor and The Incredible Hulk, the reason why he is loved isn't child's play at all.

Supreme Court's cake case pits gay rights versus Christian faith

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - When conservative Christian baker Jack Phillips in 2012 politely but firmly told Colorado gay couple David Mullins and Charlie Craig he would not make them a cake to celebrate their wedding, it triggered a chain of events that will climax on Tuesday in highly anticipated U.S. Supreme Court arguments.

The real heroes in congressional baseball attack

One of the things that struck me hardest about the horrific shooting on the baseball diamond at the Republican congressional baseball practice Wednesday morning was the fact that, before opening fire, the shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, paused to ask if his potential targets were Democrats or Republicans. The idea that a man would politely inquire about the political party of a group of men practicing "America's pastime" and then open fire based on the answer, staggers me.
