Opinion: Trump has CPAC, but Biden has kryptonite

President Joe Biden should just ignore Donald Trump upon his return to Conservative Political Action Conference this weekend, where the former president is set to throw his Republican acolytes political red meat. If his downplaying of the insurrection of January 6, and deflecting responsibility onto his critics is not enough, they can also hear him play his greatest hits, maybe with a few new tunes thrown in along the way. Given that most Republicans, including Sen. Mitch McConnell, have made clear that they are fine having him as the face of their party, Trump will undoubtedly be energized. It is rarely used and Trump's second impeachment now represents half of all presidential impeachments. The bar to impeach is relatively low as it only requires a majority vote in the House of Representatives. However, the bar for removal is extraordinary -- requiring a two-thirds vote in the Senate. Given the extreme nature of the process, it is understandable that the Framers made it so difficult. Of the 20 federal officials to be impeached, eight have been removed from office.
