Opinion: Trump and his CPAC fans lead GOP down a losing path

Donald Trump's return to the national stage at the Conservative Political Action Convention (CPAC) was about what I expected: In a two-track speech where he was intermittently bored by a teleprompter and amused by his own adlibs, he teased a third presidential run, came home to his animating issue, immigration (which was inexplicably absent from his 2020 reelection campaign) and continued the farce that he actually won last November. He even ran through a "hit list" of Republicans to be ousted from the party.

Big student loan debt is not a 'Harvard, Yale and Penn' problem

On the campaign trail, President Joe Biden promised to cancel at least $10,000 of federal student loans for all borrowers in response to the Covid-19 crisis. Over 60 lawmakers and 17 state attorneys general have called on him to go further and cancel up to $50,000 administratively. When Biden was asked if he would cancel $50,000 of student debt for struggling borrowers at a CNN Town Hall last Tuesday, his answer unfortunately reflected some commonly held misconceptions about student loan borrowers.

Opinion: Biden is racing a ticking clock to fulfill this campaign promise

When Massachusetts Governor Michael Dukakis ran for President against George H. W. Bush in 1988, he made competence one of his major campaign themes. Instead of claiming to be a visionary politician or a champion of liberalism, Dukakis highlighted his technocratic managerial expertise. "This election isn't about ideology," Dukakis argued, "It's about competence. It's not about meaningless labels; it's about American values -- old-fashioned values like accountability and responsibility and respect for the truth."

Opinion: The man who created President Donald Trump

When the news broke last October that Donald Trump had been diagnosed with Covid-19, legendary conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh immediately swooped in to help the campaign. He offered to hold a "radio rally" for the benched President, and Trump took him up on it. Though the resulting two-hour diatribe was not particularly effective radio, it highlighted just how important the radio host was to Trump's political career, even at that moment when both Limbaugh's show and Trump's presidency were nearing their end.

Canada's elderly are 'terrified' vaccines may not come soon enough

Back in December 2020, Canada's coronavirus vaccination campaign looked promising as first doses were administered. But two months later supplies are down to a trickle and some of the country's elderly population is concerned. CNN's Paula Hancocks reports on what's gone wrong.

Watch Biden's promise about stimulus checks

President Joe Biden vowed that he would follow through on his campaign promise to provide Americans with $2,000 for Covid-19 relief. Biden said his $1.9 trillion relief bill will include $1,400 checks to go along with the $600 checks that were distributed in the last relief bill.
